Mop Sink

Does your business or restaurant need a mop sink? If you mop your floors on a daily basis, then the answer is likely yes. It will save you and your employees’ time, as well as help to prevent accidents.

An accident is almost inevitable when, every day, you lift a back-breaking heavy bucket of slimy, filthy water into the waist-high sink and dump it out. A mop sink isn’t just for ease of use; it’s for your safety, too.
It’s also important to use a separate sink for your mops for the obvious reason: it’s unsanitary to use a sink for anything else if you’re pouring dirty floor water into it. Materials like stainless steel make for easy cleaning, which is important. You can also get a fiberglass mop sink or a plastic mop sink.

Fiat is a popular manufacturer of the mop sink. The Fiat mop sink is known for being sturdy, and as the company has been around for almost 100 years, it’s a trustworthy product.

The mop sink should go along a wall or in a corner, usually in a kitchen, maintenance room, warehouse, or janitorial closet. Most mop sinks come with the hardware to be floor-mounted, but there are some with legs that make them slightly elevated.

Whether you get a floor sink or one with legs all depends on your height, the size of your mop(s), and the size of the space you’re using.

A mop sink can be installed alone, or with a mop sink faucet. This special type of faucet is an added plus, if you can afford it. There are some faucet brands that have vacuum breakers that prevent back-flow.

The faucet makes it possible to fill up the mop bucket using hot or cold water, and to rinse your mop. If you get a mop sink but not a faucet, you’re able to dump your dirty water but you’re still stuck rinsing your mop and filling your bucket in the “regular” sink. This is why I’d recommend getting both a sink and a faucet.

Most homeowners don’t need a mop sink, because their mop buckets hardly ever weigh enough to warrant it. But you still need somewhere to rinse that dirty mop or occasionally hand-wash clothes. For these people, a service sink is a necessity.

Most people put this sink, which is also referred to as a utility sink or a laundry sink, in their laundry room, mudroom, basement, or garage. This type of sink is usually big, white, and plastic, but there are newer designs that are easier on the eyes. Recently in stores, I’ve seen laundry sinks in a range of colors and materials.

The laundry sink has an additional use, which I frequently take advantage of: it’s perfect for washing cats (good luck with that!) and smaller dogs.

A mop sink is so much easier than using the bath tub, and it’s more confined than just using the hose outside. At around $100 or even less, a laundry sink adds convenience to your life.
